Advanced Practice Nurse Information

An applicant for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) recognition must have the following Wyo. Stat. Ann. § 33-21-120 (a)(i)(C-D):

  • A master’s degree in nursing with a clinical specialty or an advanced practice registered nurse specialty, or has completed an accredited advanced practice registered nurse educational program with a clinical specialty prior to January 1, 1999; and
  •  Completion of an advanced program of study in a specialty area in an accredited nursing program, has taken and passed a national certification examination in the same area and has been granted recognition by the Board to practice as an APRN.
Any person who holds a license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse in this state shall have the right to use the title "Advanced Practice Registered Nurse" and the abbreviation "A.P.R.N." No other person shall assume this title or use this abbreviation or any words, letters, signs or devices to indicate that the person using same is an advance practice registered nurse. If you are an APRN in another state or a current Wyoming RN who wishes to add an advanced practice recognition to their license, please use the Application - APRN Licensure by Endorsement or Examination. This application will also include the option to apply for prescriptive authority.

**Temporary permits are now available for Advance Practice Registered Nurses. Please note:  Prescriptive Authority CANNOT be granted until the permanent license is issued. Permanent license is issued when the criminal background check (CBC) is complete. The processing time for the CBC is usually 35-45 days; however, it can take as long 90 days. Please indicate if you wish to receive a temporary permit and provide a start date for the temporary permit.  Also, you must include two (2) FBI completed fingerprint cards with your application.
